"I made the Equity print in late May 2020. I had the design in mind for a while, but it actually manifested a few days after George Floyd was murdered. I made an edition of 100 prints, and I traded them to people for donations to The NAACP, The ACLU, and/or The George Floyd Memorial Fund. Now, in partnership with @BurlaepApparel out of Chattanooga, TN -- we’re offering a hoodie to fundraise for @MemphisRoxClimbing and Soulsville (aka South Memphis, TN.)
Memphis Rox is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rock climbing gym and community center located in the Soulsville neighborhood of South Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis Rox is the first nonprofit climbing gym of its size, standing at 32,000 sq. ft with yoga and meditation space, a fitness area and system board. The campus also houses Juice Almighty, an in-house cafe, the Soulsville Community Closet and an Educational Food Garden.
Memphis Rox brings rehabilitation, healing and a renewed sense of hope to challenged communities by providing a climbing facility and programs that foster relationships across cultural, racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
Memphis Rox is a pay-what-you-can, no profit organization. They have suggested pricing, but understand that not everyone can afford to pay. Those without the monetary means to climb will still have full access to the facility in exchange for volunteering at the gym, or at a local charity. At Memphis Rox, they’re reimagining currency. It's not just about money, but person power; a willingness to give what one can; be it one's time, talent, or simply an encouraging word. No one will ever be turned away from Memphis Rox for their inability to pay.
